I have a dell 2400 deminsion desktop and i bought ram ( 1gb, DDR, PC1600,cl2.0,ecc) my old ram was(256mb,DDR,3?

Your new ram might not be compatible with your motherboard. If your PC was running with DDR3 then you should probably buy DDR3 as a replacement.
